Conrad K Sangma, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, announced on Friday that the NPP-led MDA government has introduced FOCUS, an inclusive farmers’ welfare program that will support around 4.5 lakh farmers in the state, in response to the financial difficulties which the farmers have experienced as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. What Is CM FOCUS Program Meghalaya?
The state of Meghalaya has launched a welfare scheme for farmers worth 200 crore rupees. The program was developed by the state government in response to the financial troubles that farmers had experienced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has visited numerous districts and blocks across the state during the last 3 months. Farmers are grouped into “producer groups” for this program, and each member of the group receives 5,000 rupees. The funds, according to Mr. Sangma, can be used as seed money to help farmers scale up their operations.

Objectives of CM FOCUS Program Meghalaya
Welfare programs are aimed at improving overall farming activities, farmers’ long-term income, and marketing linkages, as well as ensuring that the state’s agri- and Horti-products are promoted and marketed to their full potential.
CM FOCUS Program Benefits
The government has initiated a variety of financing options to promote entrepreneurial activities, including interest-free loans. The money could be used as seed money to help farmers scale up their operations. Numerous infrastructure development projects in the Chokpot area of the South Garo Hills, including Chokpot Water Supply, a new Civil Sub Division building, a Guest House, and a road from 12 miles to Chokpot, have also been approved for a total of Rs. 100 crore.
Mr. Sangma handed out cheques totaling 1.2 crores to 170 producer groups at the FOCUS program in Chokpot to help them expand their farming and entrepreneurial activities. The Chief Minister encouraged people to take advantage of the government’s welfare initiatives and to form self-help groups and cooperative societies. He also claimed that infrastructure projects in Chokpot, in the South Garo Hills, have been sanctioned to the tune of over a hundred crore rupees.
