It is because the term adult education does not represent all non-literates in the age group of 15 years and above across the country. About New India Literacy Programme
According to the census 2011, there are about 5.76 crore people in our country of the age group 15 and above who are non-literates. To educate them ministry of education has started a New India Literacy Programme. The programme has announced to impart education related to all aspects of adult education. The scheme is implemented by the government through volunteers. The government has set a target of 5 crore learners for the financial year 2022-27 under this programme. Government has outlet an estimate of the programme is rupees 1037.90 crore for the financial year 2022 to the financial year 2027. Rupees 700 coronaviruses are by the central government and the rest of the amount is by the state government.

Objective Of New India Literacy Programme
The objective of the Government of India behind starting a new Indian literacy is to impart foundational literacy and numeracy but also to cover other components which are significant for the citizens of the 21st century. The education programme may include components of critical life skills like financial literacy, digital literacy, commercial skills, health care and awareness, children care & education and family Welfare, vocational skills, basic education and continuing education.
Programme Implementation Strategy
The New India programme implementation will be through online mode. The government is going to organise face-to-face training, orientation, and workshop for volunteers. For the successful implementation of the scheme, the government is going to provide all the material and resources through digital mod like TV, radio, cell phone-based free, open-source apps and portals.
New India Literacy Programme Participants
In this programme 3 crore students of around 7 lakh schools registered under the unified district information system for education going to take part. Around 50 lakh teachers of government, aided and private schools are going to participate as a volunteer. Moreover, to extend the support Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, PRIs and around 50 lahks NYSK, NSS and NCC workers are going to work for the programme, as per the information provided by the office of the ministry of education.

Application Procedure Under Programme 2023
The learners can register themselves by using the online teaching-learning and assessment system which has started in partnership with the NIC NCERT and NIOS. Prospective learners have to fill out the application form. Yet there is no detailed information about the steps involved in the application process.
