On June 1, 2015, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was officially introduced. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2023
A Credit Linked Subsidy Plan (CLSS) is provided to eligible beneficiaries such as the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), the Low Income Group (LIG), and the Medium Income Group (MIG) under this scheme (MIG). The Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme provides an upfront discount on the principal outstanding on a home loan for house construction/acquisition, including buyback. The PMAY scheme has an interest rate that starts at 6.50 percent per annum and can be used for up to 20 years. The government provides a subsidy of Rs 2.67 lakh on the interest of a home loan when buying a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Under this initiative, the Uttar Pradesh Awas Vikas Parishad would provide cheap housing. This scheme has received applications for roughly 3516 dwellings in Uttar Pradesh. These homes may be found in 19 cities across Uttar Pradesh.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Types
The PMAY is divided into two sub-sections, each focusing on a different area:
- Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin: Previously known as the Indira Awas Yojana, the PMAY– Gramin (PMAY-G) was renamed PMAY-G in 2016. The plan aims to provide eligible recipients in India’s rural areas with inexpensive and convenient dwelling units (excluding Chandigarh and Delhi). The Government of India and the different state governments split the cost of housing development in the ratio of 60:40 for plain areas and 90:10 for North-Eastern and hilly areas under this plan.
- Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban (PMAYU): As the name suggests, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAYU) focuses on India’s urban areas. There are currently 4,331 towns and cities affiliated with this scheme. The scheme is put up to work in three different phases:
- 1st Phase: From April 2015 to March 2017, the government aimed to reach 100 cities in various states and UTs across the country under Phase 1.
- 2nd Phase: From April 2017 to March 2019, the government aimed to cover 200 more cities in various states and UTs across the country under Phase 2.
- 3rd Phase: The government aimed to cover the cities that were left out of Phases 1 and 2 by the end of March 2022, to complete the project by the end of March 2022.
Eligibility Criteria for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana

- Family members of the applicant must not possess a home in any area of the country.
- The Applicant’s family must not have benefited from any of the Government of India’s housing-related initiatives.
- In the event of a married pair, either a single or joint ownership contract is permitted, with both receiving a single subsidy.
