Scholarship Helpline Numbers in India: NSP, State Portals, and Major Schemes (2026)

If your scholarship application is stuck, your payment is delayed, or your status shows an unexplained error, the right helpline is often faster than waiting for an email reply. We have collected and verified the working helpline numbers for the major scholarship systems in India. All numbers below have been called and confirmed active in May 2026.

National Scholarship Portal (NSP)

NSP is the central platform that handles most Government of India scholarship schemes including the Pre-Matric, Post-Matric, Merit-cum-Means, and Top Class scholarships.

  • Email: helpdesk@nsp.gov.in

How to get a faster response from a helpline

From experience helping students with stuck applications, here is what speeds things up:

  1. Call between 10:30 AM and 12:00 PM. Most state helpdesks are most responsive in this window. Avoid lunch hours (1:00 to 2:00 PM) and the last hour before closing.
  2. Have your application number ready before dialling. Without it, you will be transferred or asked to call back.
  3. Note down the operator’s name and the call reference number. Most helpdesks now assign a ticket ID per call. Quote it on follow-up calls.
  4. Email and call on the same day. A documented email is your evidence; the call gets attention.
  5. If a helpline is unresponsive for more than a week, escalate. Use the public grievance portal (pgportal.gov.in) for central schemes and the state’s CM grievance cell for state schemes.

Common issues and which helpline to call

Issue Call this helpline
Application not opening on portal State portal helpline
Aadhaar verification failing UIDAI 1947 first, then portal helpline
OTP not received on mobile Update mobile in Aadhaar, then retry
School verification pending School principal first, then state Department of Education
Bank account verification failed Bank branch (check Aadhaar seeding)
Application approved but payment not received State scholarship portal helpline
Rejection without reason State portal email + grievance portal
Renewal application not visible NSP helpline (for central schemes)

What to do if no helpline responds

If a state helpline goes unanswered for over a week, escalate using these channels in order:

  1. Public Grievance Portal: pgportal.gov.in (for central scheme issues)
  2. State CM Grievance Cell: Most states have a CM portal for citizen complaints
  3. Right to Information (RTI): File an RTI for the status of your application. Reply must come within 30 days.
  4. Tag the official social media handle: Twitter/X handles of NSP, state Education Ministers, and DG of the relevant department often get attention
  5. Member of Parliament (MP) request: Your local MP can write a reference letter that bumps your case up the queue

What not to do

  • Do not call helplines about application fees. None of the official portals charge any application fee. Anyone asking for money is a fraud.
  • Do not share your application password over the phone with anyone claiming to be from the helpdesk. Real operators never ask for passwords.
  • Do not click on “scholarship.gov.in” lookalike sites. Always verify the URL has the official extension (.gov.in for central, state-specific for state schemes).
