Academy Teachers Award 2023 is an initiative by the INSA for the teachers teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate level in any Indian University or Institution. INSA Teachers Award is made annually to recognize and honor teachers for providing guidance, inspiration, and mentoring students to take up careers. A teacher is a person who helps students to acquire knowledge, competence, or virtue. To recognize and value excellence, consistency, and a high level of teaching in Indian colleges Universities, and institutions. The awarded shall receive a scroll, a cash award of Rs-50000/- and a one-time book grant up to Rs-20000/-. The last date for receipt of nominations will be updated soon.
What Is INSA Teachers Award 2023?
The Indian National Science Academy establishes in 1935 January with the objective of promoting science in India and harnessing scientific knowledge for the cause of Humanity and National Welfare. The Academy has instituted the INSA Teachers Award to recognize and honor teachers who have provided guidance and inspired students to take up careers in Science and Technology. The foundation of the academy, earlier known as the National Institute of Science of India (NISI), was the outcome of joint endeavors of several organizations and individuals, and the International Science Council (ISC) played a leading role in this regard. Objective of INSA Teachers Award
- INSA Teachers Award is an opportunity for undergraduate or postgraduate level Teachers in any Indian College/University/Institution.
- The objective is to promote science in India and harness scientific knowledge for the cause of humanity and national welfare.
- The award is made annually to recognize and honour teachers for providing guidance, inspiration, and mentoring students to take up careers in Science and Technology.
Benefits of INSA Teachers Award
- The selected 15 awardees will receive a cash reward of INR 50,000.
- A one-time book grant of INR 20,000 and scroll each.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, an applicant must fulfill the following Eligibility Criteria:
- The award shall be made to outstanding teachers who are currently working in India with at least 15 years of work experience at the undergraduate or postgraduate level in any Indian college or university.
- The maximum age limit is 55 years as of December 31st of the Year preceding the year of the award.
- The nominee can be nominated a maximum of three times.
- The award will not be offered to fellows of any of the national academies.
- It will also not be offered to anyone who is vice-chancellor of a University, Director of an Institution/laboratory or holding a position where his or her teaching is restricted.
Documents Required
- Published review of books
- A list of any recognition at the state or national level to be received by the nominee for excellence in teaching.
- The latest curriculum vitae is not more than three pages of A4 size paper of the Nominee.
- List the current positions of the six former students of the Nominee, giving names, levels, and years of their study period, and contact details including their emails and mobile numbers
- A brief write-up highlighting dedication to teaching, motivational skills, evidence of innovative teaching methods/materials, functioning as a role model, and other qualities (not exceeding 1,000 words)
- A brief note highlighting other academic activities in addition to regular duties, such as general/popular articles/lectures on science, organizing seminars/ workshops, outreach activities, etc. (not exceeding 100 words)
- A list of equipment designed and fabricated and/or papers published on education in journals/magazines with state/national/international circulation.
Selection Criteria
The selection will be based on the following criteria –
- Consistent excellence in teaching as evident from the performance of students
- Inspiring students to take up careers in Science and Technology
- Introducing novel teaching methods, experiments and materials, and pedagogy
- Active involvement in science popularization and outreach activities
Terms and Conditions
- The nominee can nominate a maximum of three times.
- The award will not offer to fellows of any of the national academics
- A nomination will remain valid for consideration for two consecutive years.
- The awardees (along with spouse or one accompanying person) will be paid travel expenses (cost of economy class air-fare by Air India, purchased through its portal, Balmer & Lawrie/IRCTC/Ashoka Tours and Travels only) and local conveyance as applicable.
- INSA will help in providing local hospitality.
- Reimbursement will be on the production of tickets
