What is the Odisha NMMS Exam?

NMMS Odisha is created by the Odisha Government in order to provide an opportunity to students coming from the economically backward section of society. The students are not required to pay any type of examination fee in order to sit for the examination. Students must fill out the application form for the scholarship depending on the eligibility criteria. The students who will be shortlisted on the basis of the eligibility criteria will be required to write an entrance examination. Students who get good marks in the entrance examination will be eligible to get financial assistance directly into their bank accounts. The students must prepare for the examination according to the syllabus mentioned only official website.

Benefits of Odisha National Means cum Merit Scholarship

• Selected candidates will receive a scholarship @ Rs. 1000 (Rupees one thousand) only per month for four years i.e. from Class-IX to XII subject to satisfactory academic performance of the candidates and their continuance in institutions of eligible category.

Important Dates

• The last date to apply for the scholarship is 31st August 2023.
• Hard copies of the application form are to be submitted by the headmasters by 8th September 2023.
• Validation of application forms by the district education office is by 25th September 2023.
• Candidates can download their admit cards from 25th October to 5th November 2023.
• The examination will be conducted on 5th November 2023. 

Application Fee 

• The candidates are not required to pay any examination fees.

Number of Available Scholarship 

• The total number of 3314 scholarships shall be distributed among 30 districts. There shall be the district-wise distribution of scholarships for General, SC, ST, SEBC, and Physically Handicapped category candidate

Syllabus 

• There is no prescribed syllabus for the NMMS Examination. 
• However, questions will be asked based on Class Vii & Viii syllabi.

Examination Subjects 

• Mental Ability Test (MAT): Consists of 90 multiple choice items on reasoning and critical thinking to be answered in 90 minutes. The questions will be on analogy, classification, numerical series, pattern, perceptron, hidden figures, etc. The full mark is 90 and students have to answer all the questions.
• Scholastics Aptitude Test (SAT): Consists of 90 multiple choice items on subjects such as physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Political Science, Geography, and Economics. The full mark is 90 and students have to answer all the questions.

Selection Process

• The qualifying mark for General and SEBC is 40% in aggregate of both of the papers, i.e., MAT and SAT. For the reserved category (SC, ST, PH), this qualifying mark is 32% in aggregate of both papers. The Merit List shall be prepared to take the total marks in both the papers secured by the candidate
• Selected students have to submit their continuance certificate and mark sheet of the last annual examination in the concerned school every year, after the opening of NSP for renewal of their scholarship, otherwise, they shall be exempted from getting their scholarship.

Eligibility

• Students studying in Class VIII in Government, Government or Local Body Schools are eligible to appear in NMMS examinations.
• They must have passed the Class Vii Annual Examination securing at least 55% marks ( Relaxable by 5% for reserved category).
• His/ Her parental income from all sources should not exceed Rs. 1, 50, 000/- (Rupees One Lakh fifty thousand) only per annum. Students in Government residential Schools like JawaharNovodayaVidyalaya and residential schools under SC/ST Development Department, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sainik Schools, KGBV, etc. where expenses are paid by the Government, are not eligible under this scheme.

Required Documents

• Caste Certificate (Recent), as applicable, for SC / ST / SEBC candidates issued by the concerned Revenue Authority.
• Disability Certificate (UDID Card) for Physically Handicapped Candidates issued by the concerned District Medical Board.
• Income Certificate of the parents for all candidates (last year) from the concerned Revenue Authority.
• Children belonging to the National Food Security Act 2013 (NFSA)/ State Food Security Scheme (SFSS) can produce the supporting document. They need not produce an Income Certificate.
