The TED Follows Program recognized people at work on future-shaping ideas, offering them tools to amplify the power of their vision. Each year a new group of TED fellows from around the world and from every discipline is welcomed into this International community of remarkable thinkers and doers who have shown unusual accomplishment, exceptional courage, strength of character, and potential to create positive change in their respective fields. Every year TED selects a new cohort of fellows to join the program. Applications are accepted during an open application cycle each Summer. Through a rigorous selection process, TED narrows down the thousands of applications to work in the final cohort. The TED Fellows Program is one of the most competitive and highly selective fellowship programs in the world.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant who wants to apply under TED Fellows should fulfill the eligibility criteria which is given below:

  • The TED Fellows recognize the folks working on the ground on world-changing ideas — the doers, makers, inventors, advocates, filmmakers and photographers, musicians and artists, educators, scientists, entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, and human rights activists.
  • If you’re at work on a future-shaping idea and over the age of 18, you should apply.
  • The TED program is not an academic fellowship and non-traditional education is welcome.
  • In addition to impressive accomplishments, fine character and a good heart are also important traits they look for in TED Fellows.

TED Fellows are selected by the program staff, with extensive reference checking, fact-checking, and consultation with experts across all fields.

Your written application is central to their selection process. They read every application and encourage you to read their tips for applying before submitting your application. These tips are a guide to what we’re looking for when we review your application. Applicants may receive requests for additional information from our team. But unless we reach out to you, we require no further information from you. Ultimately, there is no algorithm for how we select our TED Fellows.

They select Fellows based on their accomplishments in their respective fields, the potential impact of their work, and also their character. The ideal applicant is collaborative in their pursuits and in their nature and is at a moment in their career to maximize the support of the TED community.

Application Procedure for TED Fellows Program

To apply under the TED Program, you’ll submit an application online during the open application cycle. Your written application is the primary means for showcasing your work — tell them what makes your work unique and impactful from others. Please write clearly for a general audience and assume that they know nothing about your field. They only accept applications written in English. And do not accept late submissions.

Once they receive your application, they start reading it. They read each and every application, and therefore the selection process takes time. You can expect to hear back from them 8 months after the application closes. All applicants are notified whether or not they have been selected to join the TED Fellows program.
