Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) program has been launched in the year 2008. Selection procedure
Selection of the application will be made on the basis of Academic Excellence, Research Potential, and Leadership (potential and demonstrated ability).
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants should be Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, and foreign citizens.
- The applicant must have been nominated by only one Canadian institution.
- Applicant must have taken admitted in a doctoral degree (including joint graduate research program such as MD/Ph.D., DVM/Ph.D., JD/Ph.D.).
- Applicants must not have completed more than 20 months of full-time study in their doctoral program as of May 1, 2022.
- Applicants must not have completed more than 32 months by May 1, 2022, of full-time study in their doctoral program by May 1, 2022, who are going to pursue
- enrolled in a joint graduate research program, (e.g., MD/Ph.D., MA/Ph.D., DVM/Ph.D.),
- accelerated directly from a Bachelor’s to a PhD
- accelerated (Fast-track) from a Master’s degree into a Doctoral program without obtaining the Master’s degree
- Applicant must not hold, or have held, a doctoral-level scholarship or fellowship from CIHR, NSERC or SSHRC to undertake or complete a doctoral program
- An applicant must not hold a faculty appointment concurrently with a Vanier Scholarship
- Applicant must not be concurrently holding any other SSHRC, NSERC or CIHR training award

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships 2023 Application Procedure
- Open the official website of the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships.
- From the home page go to the Application/ nomination process.
- Go to the instructions for applicants from the drop-down list.
- A new page will open on the screen firstly, to apply you have to create ResearchNet Account and for that, you need to follow the following steps:
- Go to “Task 3. Register for ResearchNet and Canadian Common CV (CCV) accounts”
- Click on it and then select “ResearchNet account” link
- A new page will open on the screen select “If you don’t have an account, please register.”
- Hit continue creating your new account option.
- Fill out the application form that appears on the screen including:
- Language.
- Name.
- Email id.
- Telephone number.
- Password.
- Secret question.
- Secret answer.
- Hit submit button and a successfully registered message will appear.
- After creating the ResearchNet Account you need to:
- Log in with the portal.
- Click the “Find Funding Opportunities” button.
- Select “Apply for Funding” to display an alphabetical list of the currently available funding opportunities.
- Clicking “Apply to this Opportunity” from the “Actions” menu on the right-hand side of the screen.
- A series of tasks will show on the screen, must complete the tasks:
- Identify area of research.
- Identify participants.
- Identify referees.
- Enter degree information.
- Confirm documents sent.
- Preview application materials.
- Select submit button to submit the application.
Note: if your application is selected by the nominating institution, your application will approve by the officials electronically and submit a nomination to the Vanier CGS competition. You will receive an automated email from ResearchNet acknowledging receipt after the nominating institution’s deadline date.

- Open the official website of the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships.
- From the home page go to the result option available in the menu bar
- Select the year from the drop-down list
- The result will show on the screen
- Check your name along with the institution, area of research, and Title of the Research Proposal from the list that appears on the screen
