About National Scholarship Scheme

The National Scholarship Scheme is an initiative launched by the Government of India to provide financial assistance to students from economically weaker sections of society who face difficulty in accessing education due to financial constraints. The scheme aims to promote education among these students and enable them to pursue their academic goals without worrying about the financial burden. Under the National Scholarship Scheme, various scholarships are provided to students at different levels of education, including pre-matric scholarships, post-matric scholarships, merit-cum-means scholarships, and scholarships for students with disabilities. These scholarships cover the cost of tuition fees, books, and other educational expenses. The National Scholarship Scheme is implemented through the National Scholarship Portal.

Factors Affecting NSP Scholarship Amounts

The National Scholarship Scheme (NSP) provides financial assistance to students from economically weaker sections of society, covering their education-related expenses. The amount of scholarship awarded to a student depends on several factors, including:

  • Income of the Student’s Family: The scholarship amount awarded to a student is based on the income of the family. Students from families with lower income levels are eligible for higher scholarship amounts.
  • The course of Study: The scholarship amount awarded also depends on the course of study. Students pursuing professional courses like engineering, medicine, and management are eligible for higher scholarship amounts than students pursuing arts or humanities.
  • Type of Scholarship: The NSP offers various types of scholarships, including pre-matric, post-matric, merit-cum-means, and scholarships for students with disabilities. The scholarship amount awarded depends on the type of scholarship applied for and the eligibility criteria.
  • Merit-Based Criteria: Some scholarships are awarded based on merit, and the scholarship amount depends on the academic performance of the student.
  • Availability of Funds: The scholarship amount awarded also depends on the availability of funds. If the funds are limited, the scholarship amount may be lower.
