Importance of Assam NMMS Scholarship 2023

One of the most important objectives of the Assam NMMS scholarship is to provide opportunities to people who are coming from the economically backward section of society. Students with less than 1.5 Lakh as their annual income can apply for this prestigious scholarship. Students will be provided Rs 1000 per month till they complete their class 12th board exams in Assam state. This scholarship will not only provide financial opportunities for the students but will also provide motivation to the students so that they can take part in a competitive examination. Objective of National Merit Cum Means Scholarship 

National Merit Cum Means Scholarship is not only available in the Assam state but it is also available in all the other different states of India by the central government. The scheme was launched by the central government in the year 2008 in order to help students who come from the economically backward section of society. Since the inception of this particular scholarship, students have been able to get financial assistance every month so that they can continue their education without having to worry about their condition. However, this scholarship is not easily provided to the students. Students are required to obtain good marks in this scholarship exam and then only they get the financial assistance.

Eligibility Criteria 

• Students studying as regular students in classes IX, X, XI, and XII in Government, Government-aided, and local body schools for a maximum period of four years. 
• The students studying in “KENDRIYA VIDYALAYAS’ and “JAWAHAR NAVODAYA VIDYALAYAS” are not entitled to this scholarship.
• Students studying in Residential Schools run by the State Government Institutions, where facilities like boarding, lodging, and education are provided and students studying in private schools are also not eligible for the scholarship under this scheme.
• Scholarships are awarded to gifted or meritorious students whose parental income is not more than Rs. 1,50,000/- per annum. 

Benefits 

• The amount of the scholarship will be Rs. 12000/- per annum @ Rs. 1000 per month.

Selection Process

• State-level NMMSS exam is conducted in the month of November in every state. 
• There are 40 numbers of centers in all over Assam.
• The students must pass both the tests i.e. MAT and SAT with at least 
• 40 % marks in aggregate taken together for these two tests. (For the SC/ST students, 32% marks)
• The student must have scored at least 55% mark or an equivalent grade in the Class VIII examination. (50 % for SC/ST students). 
• The state’s current quota of Assam is 2441.
