What Is Google Ph.D. Fellowship 2023

Google Ph.D. Fellowship directly supports graduate students as they pursue their PhD. as well as connects them to a Google Research Mentor. Google Ph.D. Fellowship supports promising Ph.D. candidates of all backgrounds who seek to influence the future of technology. Google’s mission is to promote faster inclusive research communities and encourage people of diverse backgrounds to apply. Currently, this  Fellowship is offered in Africa, Australia, Canada, East Asia, Europe, India, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, and the United States. Selected candidates will receive a monthly fellowship and contingency grant along with a chance to do an internship at Google after successfully clearing the internship interview process.

Objective of Google Ph.D. Fellowship

Google Ph.D. Fellowship Program will directly support graduate students as they pursue their PhD., as well as connect them to Google Research Mentors. The program was created to recognize outstanding graduate students doing exceptional and innovative research in areas relevant to computer science and related fields. Palatable support for promising Ph.D. candidates of all backgrounds who seek to influence the future of technology.

Benefits of Google Ph.D. Fellowship

The applicant will receive the following amount:

African Ph.D. Students Receive
  • After 3 year fellowship
  • US dollar 30k to cover stipend and other research-related activities and travel expenses including overseas travel.
  • Google Research Mentor
East Asian Ph.D. Students Receive
  • 1-year Fellowship
  • US dollar 10k to cover stipend and other research-related activities and travel expenses including overseas travel.
  • Google Research Mentor.

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Students must remain enrolled in the Ph.D. program for the duration of the Fellowship or forfeit the award.
  • Google employees and family members of Google employees are not eligible
  • Students who are already receiving another industry fellowship are not eligible.

For early-stage/incoming Ph.D. students:

  • If the applicant is not a Ph.D. student enrolled on or after April 2023, student applicants must be current full-time undergraduate or Master’s students enrolled at an Indian University. Professionals must be employed/affiliated with an organization registered in India
  • The Google Fellowship award will be contingent on the awardee registering for the full-time PhD program at an Indian university, in Computer Science or related areas, within the calendar year 2023, or the award shall be forfeited
  • Grant of the Google Fellowship does not mean admission to the Ph.D. program of a university. The awardee must also complete the Ph.D. admission process of the respective institute/university where they wish to register for their Ph.D. Granting of the Google Fellowship will be subject to the rules and guidelines applicable in the institute/university where the awardee registers for the Ph.D. program.

For late-stage Ph.D. students:

  • Applicants must have enrolled in a full-time Ph.D. program at an Indian university.
  • Applicants must be pursuing a Ph.D. in Computer Science or related areas.
Important Dates
  • Applications for the 2023 program will open soon.
  • The last date for the submission of the application form will open soon.
Documents Required
  • Applicant’s resume with links to publications (if available).
  • Available transcripts (mark sheets) starting from first year/semester of Bachelor’s degree till date.
  • Research statement of purpose (maximum of two pages).
  • Three letters of recommendation from those familiar with the applicant’s work (at least one coming from the thesis advisor in case of current PhD students).

The applicants who want to apply under Google Ph.D. fellowships will wait until the application form will be released on its official website. It is said that the application form will be released in April month for the year 2023. The application form will be filled in online mode where you have to attach your documents in a single PDF file.
