WISE Fellowship for PhD (WISE-PhD) 2023 is created by the Department of Science and Technology in order to provide opportunities for women so that they can carry on Ph.D.s in basic and applied sciences. Applicants will be invited to the fellowship program so that they can pursue PhD with this Fellowship and the proposals are to be submitted online after reading the eligibility criteria and the other details related to the fellowship. Fellowship is invited in mainly 5 subjects of basic and applied science. The applications for the scholarships are open throughout the years so the applicants do not have to wait for a particular time.

This fellowship program is only available for people who are still unemployed and between the ages of 27 to 60 years so that they can continue their research. Applicants will be responsible for taking into account research opportunities so they must not have a full-time job.

Objective Of WISE Fellowship for PhD (WISE-PhD) 2023

The main objective of the WISE Fellowship for PhD (WISE-PhD) is to provide Fellowship opportunities to women who are not able to continue their education due to various reasons and through this Fellowship programme, the students will be provided the opportunity to complete their Ph.D. People can fill out the application form by visiting the official website of the organization because the applications are open every year and the applications are open throughout the year the students can submit the applications accordingly. This scholarship is only available for the applied and basic science PhD programs available in India so you must submit the application accordingly after reading the eligibility criteria mentioned on the website. Women will be provided opportunities to continue their research program through this fellowship program.

Eligibility Criteria

• Subject Areas: Support is available in 5 subject areas namely, i) Physical and Mathematical Sciences; ii) Chemical Sciences; iii) Life Sciences; iv) Earth and atmospheric Sciences, and; v) Engineering and technology.
• Eligibility: Women who want to register themselves for a Ph.D. or are already registered for a Ph.D. but not getting any fellowship are eligible to apply to the WISE-PhD programme for financial support. It is mandatory to register for PhD within 6 months of receipt of the recommendation letter.
• The applicant should have an M. Sc./ M. Tech. or equivalent degree like B. Tech., M.Phil., M. Pharm. etc. in basic and applied sciences from a recognized University/ Institute.
• The age should be 27-45 years. However, there are 3 years of age relaxation in the upper age limit for SC/ ST/ PH candidates.
• Women in regular employment are not eligible for WISE-PhD. 
• The project is tenable for a maximum period of five (5) years or till submission of PhD thesis, whichever is earlier.

Financial Assistance

• The fellowship amount under the WISE-PhD programme is Rs.31,000/- along with House Rent Allowances as per norms, a Research Grant of Rs.1.00 lakh per year, and Institutional Overhead Charges as per DST norms.

• The online Application portal is open throughout the year for proposal submission.

Selection Procedure

• A preliminary screening will be done of the project proposals received under WISE-PhD and a final selection will be made as per the recommendations of the Subject Expert Committees (SECs). 
• The final decision of DST will be communicated to the applicants only after obtaining due administrative and financial approvals.

Terms & Conditions

• It is mandatory to submit the proposals only through online mode.
• The PI is required to see the completeness of the application before it is submitted. Once a proposal is submitted, another one can be submitted only when the last one is rejected upon evaluation. The PI shall keep a copy of the submitted proposal for their reference. There is no need to submit a hard copy of the proposal at the DST.
• Incomplete or wrongly filled-up application format or application with a lack of essential information/ documents will be summarily rejected.
• Proposals submitted through e-mail will not be entertained.

WISE Fellowship for PhD (WISE-PhD) 2023 Application Process

• You will have to visit the WISE-PhD website of the scheme by clicking on the lane given here

• Click on “New PI Registration” and fill in the requisite details for registration. In the ‘Personal Information’ section, fill – Department, Institute, and Institute Address as per the Host Institute identified for the WISE-PhD programme. Fill in the Designation as ‘WISE-PhD Fellow’
• After logging in, click on the “Submit proposals” link
• Fill in all the mandatory information.
• In the ‘Financial Details’ section, enter the ‘WISE-PhD Fellow’ fellowship amount for each year calculated on the basis of Rs. 3,72,000/- per year (@Rs. 31,000/- per month). 
• Calculate and fill the HRA amount on the basis of the applicable rate @ 0/ 9/ 18/ 27 per cent of the fellowship amount. 
• The research grant is @ Rs. 1,00,000/- per year, and the Overhead is @ Rs. 50,000/- per year, which are fixed and have to be filled accordingly.
• If you have the PFMS Unique Code of the Host Institute, then fill it in the ‘PFMS Details’; else, leave this section.
• After filling in all the above particulars, preview your detail before the final submission of the application form by clicking on the “Preview” button. 
• The preview page will display all the facts/ particulars that you have mentioned. If there is something that you wish to update, go back and correct the information, or else proceed with the filled details by clicking on the “Submit” button to finally push data into the server.
• Candidates are advised to carefully fill and verify the details filled in the online application themselves as no change will be possible/ entertained after clicking the FINAL SUBMIT BUTTON.
