SERB Research Scientist Scheme 2024: Application Form, Eligibility, Dates

SERB Research Scientist Scheme 2024 was recently launched by the Science and Engineering Research Board of India. The students from the INSPIRE Faculty and Ramanujan Fellows can apply for this SERB Research Scientist Scheme. This scheme will allow the young scientist to continue their research even after their tenure is over which is of 5 years. This scheme will give an extra 2 years to all the students of the  INSPIRE Faculty and Ramanujan Fellows. The SERB Research and Scheme will have no last date. The applicant can apply for the scheme at any point in time during the whole year.

Overview of SERB Research Scientist Scheme 2024

The Science and Engineering Board of India launched the SERB Research Scientist Scheme. Under this young scientists of the  INSPIRE Faculty and Ramanujan Fellows will be given an extra 2 years after their tenure of 5 years end. To continue their Research and will provide financial assistance to complete their research. The focus areas of the SERB research scientist scheme include Chemical Sciences, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences. The tenure of the SERB research scientist scheme is 2 years. The applicant can apply for the SERB research scientist scheme offline from their Institute.

Objective of SERB Research Scientist Scheme

The main objective of the SERB Research Scientist Scheme is to provide a platform for the students of  INSPIRE Faculty and Ramanujan Fellows. All the awardees from the INSPIRE Faculty and Ramanujan Fellows can apply for this scheme from their respective institutes. This scheme will give them an extra 2 years and will provide financial assistance to complete their research.  The scheme provides an opportunity for them to continue their research activities and also to explore regular positions during the intervening period. This scheme is a great opportunity for all the young scientists of the country who want to do their research but cannot due to financial instability.

Eligibility Criteria 

• The applicant must be a student of INSPIRE Faculty or Ramanujan fellows
• Applicants must complete their fellowship within six months before or after completion of regular tenure of the INSPIRE Faculty of DST or Ramanujan Fellowship of SERB.
• The students of INSPIRE Faculty or Ramanujan fellows can apply for this scheme only once in their career
• The age limit of this scheme is 40 years

Duration of SERB Support 

• The SERB Research Scientist Scheme is a temporary and constructual Assignment. 
• The tenure of this scheme is 2 years which is extendable up to 1 year more depending upon the performance of the candidate. 
• Under any circumstances, the support is not extendable beyond three years.

Reward Details 

• Emolument (* Consolidated amount of Rs. 1,20,000/- per month)
• Research Grant (Rs. 7,00,000/- per annum)
• Overheads (Rs. 1,00,000/- per annum)

SERB Research Scientist Scheme 2023 Offline Application Procedure 

• To apply you have to visit the SERB Research Website

• On the homepage, you have to scroll down and click on Application (Annexure I)
• The application form will be downloaded to your desktop
• Open the application form on your desktop and print out the application form 
• Fill out the application form and submit 3 copies of the application printed on both sides of A4 size paper and send them to:
